This July, Ravi from Mr Foureyes will be donating his time to go along on a volunteer trip to Fiji with Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas. In just two weeks, a team of optometrists, ophthalmologists, and other medical professionals will test the eyesight and provide donated glasses for around 2,000 people.
Over the course of June, Mr Foureyes will be assisting Karori Lions Club to collect donated glasses for this trip. We are in the process of setting up collection points around the city, so watch this space for details. Several local schools and workplaces are also involved.
Collected glasses are sorted, and a special piece of equipment (donated by Mr Foureyes) is used to record the prescription details. They will then be boxed up for transport to Fiji - where they help many people who don't currently have access to the eyewear they need. According to some estimates, fixing vision problems like this can increase productivity by 35% and monthly income by 20% - not to mention giving people a chance to enjoy looking at their loved ones!
We are planning to document the process right here on this blog, so keep in touch to see how your old glasses can be good as new again.
